Education is a shared task between parents and educators, aimed at the well-rounded development of children. For this reason, action must be taken jointly; the tutor is responsible for involving parents and providing them with all the information they need to feel connected to the school and, therefore, responsible for their children's education.
When parents participate in teaching, children generally achieve good results, improve their behavior and their attitude toward school, and grow up to be more successful in life.
Good interaction between school and family offers students an image of closeness and connection among the people who care for them, and gives the school environment a sense of familiarity and security. Viewed this way, education must guarantee students a set of experiences that support and complement, never replace, those they receive within the family, to achieve the full development of children's abilities.
Why is it so important for parents to get involved in education?
Let us remember that the family is a vital nucleus for both society and human development; for children, it is the first transmitter of cultural patterns and their first agent of socialization. This makes parents primarily responsible for education.
It should therefore be clear that education is primarily the family's task, although shared significantly with the school, the surrounding environment, and the social context. It is there that children acquire the basic social learning that will help them relate to themselves and others. Little by little, they learn rules, guidelines for action, and human behavior.
For the relationship between family and school to be effective, it is a matter, so to speak, of putting an open school into practice, one that shares the work of educating with families, complementing and expanding their educational experiences.
Making education effective depends entirely on consistent educational principles at home and at school.
To achieve this, communication and coordination between teachers and parents are necessary. Teachers therefore need not only the information parents can provide about their children to get to know them, but also their collaboration, which is very important for involving them in their children's schooling.
