Tips for a Successful Return to School

2 minutes

Going back to school is by no means easy, and without organization it can become chaotic. The whole family needs to prepare, not only by buying supplies and thinking of lunches, but mentally as well.

To make the beginning of the school year a lovely time for your children, we recommend following these tips for a successful return to school.

To-do list

Making a checklist is the first thing you should do so you can get organized and have everything ready in time for your children's return to school. To make one, you must identify what is still pending:

  • Supplies
  • Schedules
  • Lunches
  • Books...

The list may be longer than you think. You can check off completed tasks to get an idea of what remains to be done.

Go shopping as a family!

A good way to get into the right mindset is for everyone to go shopping for school supplies and anything else still needed for going back to school.

Doing this with your children is a lovely family activity and also a great opportunity to talk about going back to school, give advice, and prepare them for a good start.

Show your children support

For some children, the first day of school can cause stress and nerves. It is therefore important for us as parents to be approachable and accompany them so they feel confident and relaxed.

Be optimistic

As parents, we have a major influence on our children, and it is important to convey positive thoughts to them all the time.

We need to encourage and prepare our children to see going back to school as a chance to reunite with old classmates, make more friends, and learn new things.

Connected parents

Usually, a family member always accompanies children to school. In that sense, school drop-off and pickup are excellent opportunities to connect with them and ask for a way to contact them. It is always useful to stay in touch with other parents.

Rest really matters

Children need a good night's rest, especially before the first day. Make sure they have a good diet and eight hours of sleep so they have energy and enthusiasm for learning.

Make a calendar

Do your children enjoy crafts? Why not make a calendar with them using drawings and colors? Besides being fun, it can help them organize homework and test dates.

Completing assignments on time will make everyday life easier throughout the year.

Extracurricular activities

It is good for parents to encourage their children to take part in extracurricular activities such as sports, music, painting, or other hobbies. This is a great opportunity to become interested in different things, meet new people, and develop their identity.

Goals for the school year

Although it may seem ambitious and demanding, setting goals can be very useful when done correctly. Talk with them about what they would like to achieve this school year, from taking part in a play to understanding mathematics.

It is a good way to explore their wishes and feelings together and set healthy objectives that are not based on competition.

Put these tips into practice, prepare, and organize tasks as a family. And of course, enjoy a successful return to school!
